A

ALCHEMY:

Ancient art primarily contrived to turn base metals into gold. It was believed through the application of study and knowledge the greatest wealth of the earth (gold) could be transmuted from other metals. Alchemist also sought the keys to perpetual youth and vitality.Back to Top

ALECTRYOMANCY:

divinatory art wherein the message is received through the method of casting grain across a board or mat with the alphabet written upon it. The message was devined by tracking the order in which the bird eats the grain resting on the letters. Back to Top

AMULET:

normally a small leather bag with a charm or item of personal attachment worn around the neck. Amulets are popular as wards and guards for protection. Back to Top

ANIMISM:

the belief system that everything in nature is part of the collective consciousness and thus everything within nature has a soul as part of that consciousness. Back to Top

ASTRAL PROJECTION:

projecting one's spirit to another place (or time) through meditative practice and willful intent. The separation from the physical plane allows the spirit to travel at will to a chosen destination. Back to Top

ASTROLOGY:

The art or pseudoscience in which one's personality characteristics, character and fate are influenced or dictated by the positions of the planets and stars in relation to the place of birth at the moment of an individual's entry into the world. There are various branches of Astrology that deal with different aspects of the art. Back to Top

AUGUR:

a profit or soothsayer; a diviner of fortunes. (Archaic definition: Roman cleric of ancient times - b.c. - who interpreted the omens and the signs, normally for a hefty fee.) Back to Top

AUGURY:

the study of omens to foretell or divine the future. Back to Top

AURA:

said to be the outer reflection of the life force, many see colored or shimmering lights or "outlines" around people that emit as a light from within the person. These lights or glows are called auras. It is believed that all living things have auras. There are gifted psychics who can read auras by either their color associations or other methods. AUSPICE:

divinatory system in which the flight patterns of select birds are interpreted for messages or information in regard to the future. Back to Top

BIBLIOMANCY:

the art of divining the future by using the Bible as the augur's tool. In bibliomancy a passage is picked randomly from the Bible and then that passage is interpreted as it relates to the matter being divined. Back to Top

BLACK ART:

old superstitious phrase assigned to sorcery or witchcraft. Back to Top
