Chinese Astrology
We have all seen the placemats at our favorite Chinese restaurant, but where does the Chinese astrology come from and what does it mean to be born in the year of the monkey? According to Chinese astrology, the year of your birth tells more than just your age, it can be used to predict behaviors and future events.
In Chinese astrology, the year of your birth represents a certain phase of a 12-year cycle of time. The year of your birth is represented by a corresponding animal zodiac sign and these zodiac signs are also linked with the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) or celestial zodiac signs to form a complete horoscope. Using these two sets of zodiac signs together creates a 60-year cycle for complete astrological signs in China.
The Chinese astrology calendar is based on the movement of the moon. As a result, the signs used in Chinese astrology do not link up directly to the Gregorian calendar.
